Why The Troops?

The trick to effective psychotherapy is to see through a plethora of seemingly unrelated problems, behaviors and symptoms to the hidden, unconscious uniting issue that drives them. The unconscious is a dream-like, non-logical realm, not unlike, by appearances at least, the Trump administration. Rarely do commonsensical explanations apply. Therefor, simple, logical measures often fail to be of much benefit to the symptoms..

Most Americans see a multitude of evils promulgated by Trump, but I suspect many fail to see the underlying, unifying factor. Like therapy patients, they are in denial of it because it is too horrible and unimaginable to face.

Such it is with the occupation by troops in our cities. When the guy who failed to call in troops when the Capital was under attack by insurrectionist who were trying illegally to keep him in office suddenly decides to fill Washington DC streets with National Guard –at a time when no emergency is happening– it seems to make no sense. It’s natural to be confused about why they are there.

The explanation we are given by Trump is that the city has a crime problem that the police are incapable of dealing with.. Hogwash. In fact street crime is down. The DC crime problem that’s on the rise is not on the streets but rather in the White House, the Capitol building, federal agencies and the Supreme Court. Troops can’t remedy that. There is, in fact, so little need for troops they have been given janitorial and landscaping duties.

Let’s put the apparently unrelated pieces pieces together and see if we can find the underlying principle that this unprecedented, illegal use of the military against citizens stems from. Listing them briefly we have had the prosecution of Trump’s political critics, the appointment of incompetent political hacks into positions of power in the government, massive civil service staff cutbacks, firing of qualified officials, cutting off of funds mandated by Congress for vital services that benefit the common health, safety and welfare, etc.. Meanwhile, the super rich cash in and the president conducts personal business deals under the guise of doing his presidential duties. The list goes on and on and I need not explain each travesty to my readers.

But still, why the troops?

I believe we are being set up to become a military dictatorship. Like a true military dictator, Trump staged his vainglorious military parade. Then he fills the streets of the capital, and now other major cities, with troops. At the same time, like Hitler’s SS thugs, masked ICE agents detain people according to their ethnicity. Given these facts, it would seem to me that his intentions do not require a psychotherapist delving into his unconscious mind to determine what he is up to.

My sense is that the troops are here to chill and to suppress resistance to the regime and to disperse future political demonstrations. Their presence will create the illusion that peaceful protests are violent. Remember, Trump has previously advocated for troops to fire on peaceful demonstrators. Violence– instigated by the troops– would give Trump an excuse to declare a national emergency. He would likely use this as a means of preventing people from voting in the next election or to cancel the election entirely. There may well not be any future elections or, if there are, they will be the kind that we see in countries like Russia, mockeries that are completely rigged. Trump will then have succeeded in keeping the Republicans and himself in power indefinitely while the Democrats wallow helplessly, having no recourse other than the courts. The courts are becoming a joke. If they’re not completely corrupted yet they will be. Should they rule against Trump’s minions their rulings will, anyway, be ignored with no consequences rendered to the guilty.

Though I ardently hope I am wrong, there is a lot of evidence to suggest I’m not. If so, America will soon join history’s many failed experiments in democracy. Even worse, her official “historians” will tout that as success.
