An artist calls his gallery agent to see how his work has been selling. “Great, “replies the agent, “a guy just came in yesterday and bought every one of your paintings.”
“Wow, every one?”
“Yes, every single one. He asked me if they would be more valuable after you died and I said they definitely would be.”
“Interesting says the artist. Who is this guy? “
Replies, the agent, “your doctor. “
I sort of relate to that artist, because I will soon be gone and have noticed a very, very large increase in readership of my blog in the past few months. Many of the blogs that have been read recently are older ones that I imagine people who just recently became aware of the blog started looking through or that longer term readers, who have missed some in the past, caught up on. Of course I appreciate that new interest and hope you will continue to comb through the archives. The way things have been going lately. I am sure there will not be many more new blogs, if any.
The blog was originally a forum for marketing my novels, which have not sold many copies. Self published books by unknowns rarely do, even if they are good. Whether mine are, I leave it to you to judge, but please give them a look.
Contained in those novels, the A. Lester Lord Trilogy, are many of the ideas that you have read of in the blog, plus much more, and in a much more literary and entertaining form. They are available at Amazon Kindle books and also in paperback for an exceedingly low price. The first book was written under a pseudonym, Joseph D. Nehemia, titled “Cosmic Casino-The True Word of A. Lester Lord.” It has its good parts, but it was a learning experience. The second two novels are standalone, and much better, but you may enjoy reading the first because it is the full backstory for books number two and three. Those two, I published in my own name. Since you clearly appreciate my writing style and ideas, I am certain you will find it rewarding to read my novels and to see how my writing skills matured. In doing so you will also help prevent my starving artist widow, from being thrown into debtors prison upon my demise. She will receive a whopping two dollars for every book sold. Dear readers, please take pity upon her, and, while you’re at it, check out her website and visit the Reston Art Gallery and Studios where her work is displayed for sale. Sandy has always been the truly talented one in our relationship.
Those of you who have read my “Pentimento” series of blogs know that I was always a late bloomer. My writing career likewise started late in life, but it has given me something to keep my mind active and growing.
The mind continues willing, but the body is weak. It is an exhausting ordeal to write these essays.
Those readers who read the blog “Dropping my album” also know that I have been a songwriter for many years. I think you will enjoy watching the music videos my daughter and a friend helped me to produce after I lost the ability to play guitar and sing. These are available on YouTube.
These creations, the novels, the songs, the blogs will live on after me, and, perhaps, continue to blossom as memory of me fades away. (And at the same low price, to boot!) Before the blossoms fully fade away, I hope you will take the time to think of me by enjoying what I have created for your reading and listening pleasure. As always, I consider it a great honor that you have welcomed me into your lives, and I wish all of you health and happiness in the years to come.
An examined life, well lived. We will miss you , and you will live on in our memories.
