With the presidential debate behind us, we can be certain the “double haters” still hate both candidates and no one who didn’t plan to vote for Biden will be persuaded to. Nothing Joe Biden can say or do from now on will move “undecideds” to support him and nothing Trump says or does seems to trouble them. They’re undecided because they are clueless and will remain so. All they know or care about is that their rent and groceries cost more than they did four years ago.
As for Joe, he looked like he had aged ten years since the State of the Union address. Pale, stiff, appearing to be in respiratory distress, he raced and stumbled through his responses in a weak, halting voice, missing the many opportunities to counter Trump’s torrent of falsehoods were he to have simply made short, strong declarative statements of fact.
Trump looked hale and hearty, and I hate to say it, but he lied so blatantly and adeptly that at times he almost had me second guessing what was true or false.
Based on recent polls, the majority of “deciders” in swing states think the self proclaimed future dictator, Hitler admirer, Putin loving, revenge monger Trump, who staged an armed rebellion against the government, would be better for democracy, that his psychotic thought processes represent actual logic, that his economic policies would benefit the average poor slob, that his typically chaotic responses to crises will be effective, that immigrants are all “animals” and criminals, that his convictions are due to a corrupt Justice Department controlled by Biden, and that his claims of election fraud are valid.
Need I say these people are clearly not tuned into reality? What, then, are they tuned to? No doubt, many are busy staying abreast of more pressing issues, not least of which are the latest doings of Taylor Swift.
That is why, today, I am formally announcing my all important endorsement of Ms. Swift.
After having read my not so positive blogs regarding Taylor, readers may be confused over this endorsement.
Please recall, the blogs did not demean the divine diva’s character. She is obviously a perfectly honest, good and ethical person. My complaints were merely based on the fact that I happen not to enjoy her style of music. My senescent mind cannot comprehend how such repetitively mediocre melodies and mundane lyrics arouse so much adulation. Probably that’s because I merely listened to them and did not watch her gyrating around the stage in a flimsy costume.
That’s neither here nor there. Clearly a candidate’s taste in music has nothing to do with whether they’d make a good leader of the free world. Actually, one thing about Taylor’s musical history makes her supremely qualified. Go on You Tube and find a video of Taylor singing the national anthem at age 11 at a Philadelphia 76ers basketball game. If you are among the few who know the correct way to sing it you will notice that she did not make the mistake most performers do. The phrase, “banner yet wave” is correctly sung “ba—ner-er ye-et way-ave” not Ba-ah-ner-er ye-et way-ave.” An insignificant detail? I think not. By singing it correctly even at that young age, Taylor demonstrated not only respect for our nation and its traditions, but also attention to detail necessary to the office of president. I bet, unlike her prospective opponent, she has read the Constitution and knows the three branches of government.
Taylor will be 35 at her inauguration, so she qualifies age-wise. She would be the solution to the “two old men” issue for sure.
Taylor is clearly highly intelligent, even smart enough to know mediocre lyrics, mostly about such universal experiences as heartbreak, appeal to the average voter. That bodes well for her ability to communicate with the electorate.
Her popularity is such that the enthusiasm she created in the crowds at recent concerts set off the alarm at an earthquake monitoring station. She’d obviously win by a landslide (or two or three) in a tsunami of voter turnout.
She has weathered so many breakups, she is obviously toughened up against adversity. She could surely carry us through any crisis.
One thing that really shows the superiority of her character is that she is a football fan. (OK, maybe more a fan of a particular football player. At the moment, at least.) Readers know that I regard football as emblematic of all the highest aspects of the our species. Football is played tough but fair. The opponents display respect for one another and are joined in fellowship. The game embodies the height of human attributes such as strength, gracefulness, skill, perseverance, loyalty, dedication, intelligent planning and strategic thinking. Since football should, in my opinion, be the national religion, if Taylor so proclaimed it, the rug would be pulled right out from under the White Christian Nationalist movement.
It certainly does not hurt that she is, literally, an attractive candidate and handles the pressure of being the center of attention with ease. She is loved by Americans of all races, genders, creeds and political orientations, so she would unify us and end the culture wars.
The fact that she does not get along with the Trump-loving Kanye West and Kim Kardashian also recommends her highly.
Taylor is worth over a billion dollars, another requirement for president these days. As a woman successful in a male dominated world, she would hold her own against any world leader, asserting US dominance while dancing around their machinations. In high heels no less.
She is politically liberal and enlightened on such critical problems as global warming, just the Democratic ticket to oppose MAGA.
Joe, face it. You blew the debate, confirming the image, fair or unfair, that you are a confused old man who stutters.
Step aside and endorse Taylor. If she were to run, her victory and the victory of liberal democracy would be nothing short of earthshaking.
